Effects of the the Revolution of the Earth

EFFECTS OF REVOLUTION

The earth revolves around the sun with the tilted angle of 23 1/2 degree perpendicular to the plane of the orbit. If it is not inclined to 23 1/2 degree, there would be no change of seasons. The orbit, path of the planet is elliptical. So the distance between the sun and the earth is unequal always.

The revolution causes four seasons in worldwide namely

  • Spring Season (March - May)
  • Summer Season (June - August)
  • Autumn Season (September - November)
  • Winter Season (December - January)

The revolution of the earth causes Equinoxes twice in a year on 21st March and 23rd September. Equinox means equal day and night (12 hours day time and 12 hours night time).

March 21st is the Vernal Equinox or Spring Equinox. September 23rd is the Autumn Equinox. the sun directly overhead on equator at noon on these two days.

On 21st June, the sun directly overhead on Tropic of Cancer. This is the longest day in Northern Hemisphere. This position is known as Summer Solstice. It is the shortest day in Southern Hemisphere.

On 22nd December, the sun directly overhead on Tropic of Capricorn. This is the longest day in Southern Hemisphere. This position is known as Winter Solstice. This is the shortest day in Northern Hemisphere.

The daylight illuminates before the sunrise and after the sunset is termed as Twilight. Before the sunrise, it is called Dawn. After the sunset, it is called dusk.

The natural light illuminates around the Arctic regions of higher latitudes of Northern Hemisphere is termed as Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. The same is termed as Aurora Australis or Southern Lights around the Antarctic regions of Higher latitudes.
